DOCUMENTATION

Media Library Folders comes with hooks so you can easily customize and extend it to fit your exact needs

ADD IMAGES TO YOUR POSTS AND PAGES

Media Library Folders Pro to add images to a posts and pages is done solely by clicking the Add Media button.

Our folder UI now appears in the WordPress Media Uploader. That means when you are editing a post or page and you click the ‘Add Media’ button it will display Media Library Folders Pro. Through the Media Uploader you can select a multiple images to be inserted at the same time. You can also upload new files, move or copy files, add or remove folders and sync the contents to the current folder.

There are three main improvements:

  • You can access the MLFP folder tree by clicking the Add Media button. MLFP now replaces the native Insert Media functionality with a fully browsable folder tree – you just navigate to the desired folder and select one or more images to insert. The folder tree appears in the media popup.
  • We have rewritten MLFP so that there are no more complete page refreshes when you open a folder or add/delete images. A big improvement in usability.
  • When you move files in your media library MLFP updates any links that include that file name in your standard posts and pages. A big time saver when you have moved a large number of images.

Add File

Creating a New Media Folder

ORGANIZING EXISTING FILES INTO FOLDERS VIA WORDPRESS DASHBOARD

When you add new media through the Media Library Folders Pro interface, you can upload files directly to your chosen folder.

To organizing the existing files all you need to do is drag and drop files exactly like you would on your operating system. For example, to move media from WordPress’ default folder structure to your new folder, all you need to do is drag and drop:

You can choose to either completely move the file or copy the file.

This distinction is important because the actual URL of your media will change if you move it. The plugin will automatically update the URL in posts and pages – but it might cause issues if you use the file in third-party galleries or other plugins.

If you copy the file, on the other hand, the plugin will leave the existing version intact, so there’s no risk of breaking any hard-coded links (but you will have two duplicate files on your server as a result).

ORGANIZING EXISTING MEDIA INTO FOLDERS VIA FTP

If you’re dealing with an especially large media library, you might not want to do everything manually through the WordPress interface.

This is where Media Library Folders Pro’s server sync feature comes in handy.

Any folder that you create via the plugin will also show up when you browse your server via FTP. And vice versa, you can also create folders via FTP that show up in Media Library Folders Pro:

New files can be organized by FTP and then synced with the Media Library.

To do that, use your FTP program like normal. Then, you can either check for new folders that you added via FTP by clicking on Check for New Folders. Or, you can sync the contents of a specific folder with your server by clicking the Sync button.

ORGANIZE WORDPRESS MEDIA LIBRARY WITH CATEGORIES

Fully syncs with the Enhanced Media Library plugin

Today we are pleased to announce Media Library Folders Pro which includes our new categories capability for Media Library images. Up to now it required using a separate media library categories plugin to include categories with Media Library images. MLFP now lets you categorize your images. Additionally our categories feature is compatible with the Enhanced Media Library plugin which adds a taxonomy for images called ‘media_categories’.

Aside from the ability to view your images based on categories we have also included the ability to move part or an entire category into a folder. This makes migrating to a real folders based solution quick and easy. Our integrations with NextGen Galleries, The WordPress Gallery, Jetpack Galleries along with our featured page/post image capability can also be used with our categories function.

The Enhanced Media Library plugin and MLFP both add Media Categories to the Media Library post type. So when you add new categories in EML or in MLFP the new categories are shared with both plugins. So your category taxonomy is always saved and shared.

From this area you can:

  • Add a new category
  • Set the category of items in the media library
  • View the categories of a single item
  • Display items by categories
  • Change the sort order of items in categories

To view all the images in one or more categories, check the checkboxes of the categories you want to view and press the View Categories button. If there are more than 40 items to display you can turn on pagination for easier viewing. With the items displayed by categories, you can select items from the list to perform move, copy, regenerate thumbnails or add to a MaxGalleria gallery operations.

OFFLOAD YOUR FILES TO AMAZON S3 OR DIGITALOCEAN SPACES

With the included Media Library Folders Pro S3 add-on, you can easily offload your Media Library to Amazon S3 or DigitalOcean Spaces object storage.

By offloading your media files, you reduce the number of requests to your server while also freeing up storage space. That means a faster-loading, more lightweight site.

Your offloaded files retain the same folder structure and you can easily move them back and forth between your own server and your object storage.

All Media Library Folders Pro users can offload 500 images for free for each individual site with an active license. And if you need to offload additional images, you can go unlimited for just $49 per year for each site.
